Below are instructions on configuring settings in the Scan Profile wizard in the Barcode Detection dialog.
Barcode Detection
- On the Configure Your Barcode Detectionwindow, manage the barcodes to identify during scanning or importing.
- To add a new barcode, click Add a Barcode.
- To edit an existing barcode, click the Editbutton next to the barcode that you want to change.
- To delete an existing barcode, click the Deletebutton next to the barcode that you want to remove.
- If you chose to add a new barcode or edit an existing barcode, on the Identify Your Barcodespage, configure the barcode identification options, and then click Next.
For detailed information about the barcode identification options, refer to the following table.
Basic Identification Option |
Description |
Barcode Name |
Type a unique name for the barcode. |
Applicable Documents |
Select All Documents to identify the barcode on documents of any content type. Select a content type to identify the barcode only on documents of that content type. |
Barcode Type |
Select a type of barcode to detect. |
Detection Type |
Select In Order to count barcodes of the selected type and detect the barcode in the configured place in the order. Select By Value to read barcode values of the selected type and detect the barcode with the configured value. |
Order |
Type the place in the barcode order to detect the barcode. This option is only available if you selected In Order for the Detection Type. |
Value |
Type the value that the barcode needs to match to be detected, or leave the box blank to match any value. This option is only available if you selected Value for the Detection Type. |

Location |
Select an area of the page to detect barcodes. |
Direction |
Select a direction to search the page for barcodes. |
Page Number |
Type the page in the document to search for barcodes, or leave the box blank to search every page. |
- If you chose to add a new barcode, on the Configure Barcode Actionspage, select any combination of actions to perform when the barcode is detected.
- To create a new document when the barcode is detected, select Document Separation, and then click Next.
- To use the barcode to populate a property in the document or batch, select Property Population, and then click Next.
- To remove the page where the barcode is detected, select Page Removal, and then click Next.
- If you do not want to configure any actions, ensure none of the actions are selected, and then click Save.
- If you selected Document Separation, select a content type for the new document, and then click Next.
- If you selected Property Population, configure your population settings, and then click Next.

Select Document Property to populate a property in the document. Select Batch Property to populate a property in the batch. |
Field to Populate |
Select a content type field to populate or type a custom field. |
Value to Populate |
Select or type a value to populate, or leave the field blank to use the barcode’s value. |
Applied Documents |
Select Current Document to populate the property only for the document where the barcode was detected. Select Current Document to populate the property for the document where the barcode was detected and the documents after it in the batch. This option is only available if you selected Document Property for the Property Type. |
- When you have configured all of the selected actions, click Save.
- When you have finished configuring barcodes to identify, click Save.
