Worker machines are servers with the Processing Service feature installed. A worker machine can process jobs, which import documents or perform other scheduled tasks, or activities, which process documents. The type of work that a worker machine can perform is determined by its configured roles.
Worker roles determine which activities a worker machine will process. For each configured role on a worker machine, you can change how often the worker will request work and how many processing threads are reserved for activities and jobs.
NOTE: For more information on adding, editing and removing roles, reference the Roles Article.
