James Robinson Apr 17 Announcements / Company Announcements

As of April 2015, Google Chrome has phased out NPAPI (an old browser plugin) by default (including Silverlight), meaning that users who update to the latest version of Chrome will find that KnowledgeLake Imaging features which use Silverlight will no longer work (KnowledgeLake Search Center, KnowledgeLake Viewer, Query Webparts, KnowledgeLake Index Panel, etc.).  This was referenced in an advisory from Google which stated that support for NPAPI would be permanently removed from Chrome by September 2015.*

Users who try to use KnowledgeLake Imaging features which employ Silverlight (KnowledgeLake Search Center, KnowledgeLake Viewer, Query Webparts, KnowledgeLake Index Panel, etc.) will find themselves stopped by a prompt to Install Microsoft Silverlight.

There are several options that can use used as a temporary workaround:
• Use Microsoft Internet Explorer.
• Revert to the previous version of Google Chrome.
• Manually and temporarily reactivate NPAPI support in Google Chrome:

  1. In Chrome, type <chrome://flags/#enable-npapi> into the address bar.
  2. On the Experiments page, locate the NPAPI plugin, and then click Enable.
  3. Restart Chrome, and then attempt to access the KnowledgeLake feature again.  This time, a gray box with a puzzle piece icon will appear.
  4. Right-click on the puzzle piece icon, and then select Run This Plug-in.  The Silverlight-based feature can now be used temporarily in Chrome.
